Belén Martín-Matute, a professor at Stockholm University, has been named the recipient of the Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry for 2023. She is being honoured for her pioneering development of new reagents and reactions in the field of organic chemistry.
The Ulla and Stig Holmquist Science Prize in Organic Chemistry is awarded annually to a researcher whose activities are primarily based in Sweden, whose focus is the subject of organic chemistry, and who has made pioneering research contributions in this field. The prize money totals SEK 1.6 million.
Justification:
Belén Martín-Matute, a professor at Stockholm University, is being honoured for her pioneering development of new reagents and reactions in the field of organic chemistry. A main topic of her research is metal complex-driven catalysis, the aim of which is to make synthetic chemistry more environmentally friendly, especially in terms of the formation of carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatomic bonds. Martín-Matute’s research is of the highest international standard and has a major influence on central areas of organic chemistry.
