Three to receive H.M. The King’s Medal

King Carl XVI Gustaf has announced the decision to award H.M. The King’s Medal to the Vice-Chancellor of Uppsala University Anders Hagfeldt, Professor of History Maria Ågren, and Professor Emeritus of Cardiology Lars Wallentin. The King will present the medals at a ceremony at the Royal Palace on 9 September.

Anders Hagfeldt is awarded H.M. The King’s Medal of the 12th size with the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim “for meritorious contributions within the Swedish university system”.
Lars Wallentin, Professor Emeritus of Cardiology at Uppsala Clinical Research Centre and the Department of Medical Sciences, and Maria Ågren, Professor of History at the Department of History, are both awarded H.M. The King’s Medal of the 8th size with the ribbon of the Order of the Seraphim. Lars Wallentin receives the medal “for outstanding research contributions relating to cardiovascular diseases” and Maria Ågren “for significant contributions within research on Swedish history”.
Recognition of exceptional contributions
H.M. The King’s Medal was first awarded in 1800 by King Gustav IV Adolf and was formerly known as the Court Medal. It is conferred in recognition of exceptional contributions by Swedish citizens and for meritorious service at the Royal Court and in the Royal Military Staff.
Others who will receive medals from H.M. The King on 9 September include former Supreme Commander of the Swedish Armed Forces Micael Bydén, journalist Amelia Adamo, chef Marcus Samuelsson, fashion designer Lars Wallin, performing artist Linda Karlsson (Miss Li) and actor Stellan Skarsgård.
