Icebreaker Oden

The icebreaker Oden is a national research infrastructure of particular interest to Swedish and international polar research. As one of the world’s most powerful icebreakers, Oden facilitates research in the Arctic and Antarctic under extreme conditions and provides advanced equipment for studies of the atmosphere, the ocean, the cryosphere, marine ecosystems and the geology of the seabed.

Through its Department of Earth Sciences, Uppsala University is a participating partner in the infrastructure and serves on its steering group alongside the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat (the lead organisation), Stockholm University, Lund University, Linnaeus University, the University of Gothenburg, and KTH.

The Council for Research Infrastructures (RFI) funds this research infrastructure, which the Swedish Research Council considers to be in the national interest.
