About the course
What explains the outbreak of nonviolent conflict? The aim of this course is to deepen the understanding of the causes, dynamics, strategies, tactics, and outcomes of nonviolent, popular-based insurrections, that is, strategic nonviolent conflicts. The focus is on large-scale campaigns against governments, for goals such as regime change, territorial change, or end of foreign occupation. Key concepts like nonviolent mobilisation, political jiu-jitsu, backfire and radical flanks are highlighted.
