About the course

This course deals with the courtly love tradition in Irish poetry of the fourteenth to seventeenth centuries. You will acquire a knowledge of the background and origins of this type of poetry, its main themes and conventions as well as later developments. These aspects will be placed in the broader European context. All texts are read in English translation.

Outline for distance course: The distance education course is based on self-study and communication through the web-based learning environment, which contains all information regarding the course and course activities. Teaching takes the form of pre-recorded lectures, assigned readings, exercises, and discussions. Access to a computer with internet connection is required to follow the course, since all teaching and examinations are done online. Taking a distance learning course means that you yourself largely determine when you study, since you are not as tied to scheduled classes. Note, however, that this kind of course requires as much effort as an ordinary campus course and that it is equally important to meet set deadlines.
