Get to know alumni Rosi
Indonesian Titik “Rosi” Rusmiati started her career long before considering coming to Sweden to study. Once she found the Master’s Programme in Entrepreneurship at Uppsala University, she knew she could gain valuable perspectives and tools to implement in her business.
Could you tell us about your current occupation?
I currently work as a Digital Marketing Manager at a fast-growing startup. My responsibilities include creating and managing marketing campaigns, developing the company’s digital presence, and using analytics to optimise our strategies.
Why did you choose Uppsala University?
I chose Uppsala University because of its strong reputation in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The programme offered a perfect balance of theory and practical application, which I knew would be essential for growing my skills as a business owner. Plus, the university’s focus on sustainability really resonated with me, as I believe businesses have a responsibility to create a positive impact.
Did you know what career you wanted before your studies?
Initially, my ambition was focused entirely on my business back home, but studying at Uppsala University made me realise that entrepreneurship is more than just running one company. The programme taught me to think bigger, and I started seeing myself not just as a business owner but as someone who could contribute to building innovative startups anywhere in the world.
Did you face any challenges after graduation?
Yes. The biggest challenge was stepping into a new market and adapting to how businesses operate in Europe compared to Indonesia. Networking was also a challenge initially, but the skills I developed during my studies like pitching ideas and presenting my value made it much easier to build meaningful connections.
How did you find your current employment?
Before graduating, I applied to the Erasmus After Graduation programme. The programme required me to find an internship within the EU, so I applied for an internship in Germany. After completing a five-month internship, I decided to stay and look for a full-time role in a startup. Eventually, I secured my current position and obtained a Blue Card.
What advice do you have for students who want to achieve their career goals?
Take advantage of every opportunity to network and collaborate. Whether it’s through internships, university programs, or events, building connections is key. Also, don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, experiment with your ideas, try new roles, and explore industries you might not have considered before. And most importantly, stay curious and keep learning. Uppsala University is not just a place to earn a degree, it’s a platform that can launch you toward bigger dreams if you’re willing to put yourself out there.
