Game Design
Games have become one of the most influential media of the 21st century. Do you want to understand the impact games have on players and society as a whole? Do you want to see your ideas come to life? Then you should study game design at Uppsala University.
A degree in game design gives you the tools to work with the game medium on a professional level and equips you to develop new expressions within the field. Former graduates have started their own studios and work at some of the world’s best-known game companies, such as Kind, DICE, Toadman Interactive, Eat Create Sleep to name a few.
You will study at Uppsala University Campus Gotland, located in Visby on the island of Gotland.

The Department of Game Design
Games have become one of the most influential media of the 21st century. This department looks at game design, gameplay, players and contexts of play in regards to a wide range of socially relevant issues from education to health, personal development, civics and social behavior.
The Department of Game Design is a member of the Higher Education Video Game Alliance, a gathering of mainly North American higher game development educators where both education, research and industry issues are on the agenda.
Our students also have access to The Games & Society Lab – a research hub at the at Uppsala University Campus Gotland. Our researchers investigate how games impact the lives of designers, players, communities, and the broader society at large. Our work focuses on three categories of research: psychology of play, cultures of play, and transformative play.
