How did you choose your programme?
– While exploring various options to pursue higher studies in a European University, I came across this opportunity through my friend who was studying in another Swedish University (KTH). I then applied to various programs tailored to my goals and so got this.

What is the best thing about studying at Uppsala University?
– As an international student, the primary thing is you can get to meet a lot of other international students with the same mindset and goals, enabling you to work and innovate together. Moreover, Uppsala is a place built around the university, making it a student-friendly place to live in, with various libraries, student accommodations, and different aspects favorable to a student.

Was there anything you found difficult or surprising when you started your studies at Uppsala University?
– I am a student who directly started with my Master’s right after my Bachelor’s, so studying or working as a student in general wasn’t really difficult for me. However, I noticed that students have to utilise a critical thinking, and almost research-oriented mindset even for the simplest of assignments, and I think that is a positive since it shapes you up for approaching complex tasks. Also, team-work is more rigorously documented, such that every member of a group assignment/project is expected to contribute a fair amount of work to get fairly graded.

Describe the student life!
– The environment in Uppsala is deliberately shaped around giving an overall positive experience for the student beside just studies. There are different socialising environments such as nations, hike groups, sporting events, and other opportunities. The phenomenon of work-life balance is strongly reflected in the student culture.

Name three things you are doing this week
– This particular week is quite hectic for me, so three things that I am expected to do this week are: Create notes for an oral presentation, read through lecture notes for a written examination next Monday, and write testing scripts for a course project related to programming. Although, since I’m at the end of the period, the workload is expected (and does not reflect overall work-life balance).

What is your reason for studying, or your ultimate goal?
– I pursued higher studies in Computer Science to obtain a deeper understanding of the concepts brushed through in my Bachelor’s, get closer to internationally recognized real-world problems, and get exposed to global industries or latest-researched applications (Sweden is one of the highest ranked countries among the region for investment in deep technology, so there’s that as well).

What advice would you give to someone considering applying for this programme?
– I would connect this question to the aspect which surprised me during studies. You will meet a lot of international people and also professors with similar/different experiences and working styles. So my best advice is to approach your studies with curiosity and open-mindedness, without letting the environment affect your authenticity.

What is your favourite place in Uppsala?
– Uppsala in general is a serene and aesthetically rich place with a lot of nature in the surroundings. So it is a great place to hike with a group. I especially like to walk in the areas surrounding the Fyris River, as it feels really calm and beautiful there. Wherever you live in Uppsala, if you just try to look up a hiking path and take a brisk walk outside for a while, it is a great refresher after a long work session.

Where is the best place to study?
– Uppsala is home to many different libraries and study places. I like the Carolina Redviva, but I have not visited many “study places” so experiences may vary. Personally I like studying at home, since it’s the most customizable environment (naturally).

Do you have any final reflections or comments?
– I would say, try to make every opportunity count. Do every task with good focus and scientific precision. Whenever you get the potential chance to gain more knowledge, improve your portfolio, join a bigger network of knowledgeable individuals, just do it. Always remember to have a principled approach to things, and focus your principle on a broader-scheme of things. Yeah, sounds very cliché but in practice this has been really helpful to me.

– I chose the computer science programme at Uppsala University because it was a natural fit for my computer engineering background and aligned with my interests in data science and medical science. Moreover, Uppsala's strong reputation in life sciences presented an exciting opportunity to bridge the gap between technology and healthcare, making it the perfect choice.

What is it like to be an international ambassador?
– Being an international student is both exciting and challenging. The thrill of experiencing new cultures and meeting diverse people can be a rewarding adventure, but it also involves a substantial adjustment period. Adapting to a different educational system, language, and administrative processes can be demanding, but it offers valuable opportunities for personal growth and learning.

What is the best thing about studying at Uppsala University?
– The best thing about studying at Uppsala University is the combination of its top-tier status with outstanding faculties, providing a world-class education. Additionally, the extensive support services for students ensure a smooth and enriching academic journey. Moreover, the presence of student nations, which are like clubs fostering friendship and enjoyment, adds a vibrant and social dimension to the university experience, making it truly exceptional.

– Preparing for an exam, going to Norrlands nation, and preparing for an exam...

What is your reason for studying?
– My reason for studying is to become a data scientist in healthcare. I've always been captivated by the power of data science and its potential to make a meaningful impact on people's lives. My ultimate goal is to use data-driven insights to contribute to the improvement of healthcare and ultimately enhance the well-being of individuals and communities.

Describe the student life
– At first it was very hard for me to handle everything, preparing food, studying, doing laundry. Now, I am obsessed with student life! Its kind of a new journey. The best experience for me was seeing auroras in the sky.

What is your favorite place in Uppsala?
– At the moment it is the Norrlands nation and the surroundings around the Fyris river and Vaksalagatan. A lot of activity and beautiful places.

Where is the best place to study?
– For me two places are the best; The library at Campus Ekonomikum, and the study rooms at Campus Ångström.
