Name: Pei Hung Liang
From: Taiwan

My degree in sustainability set me apart in the job market because it is still uncommon to have such a degree in Taiwan.

What do you do today?
– I am the Circular Economy Leader at Decathlon Taiwan. My main responsibility is to develop the repair service at Decathlon, overseeing the operation of the repair workshop and promoting the repair service to our customers.

How did you get to the point where you are today?
– I pursued Business Administration in my bachelor's and had working experience in the sporting goods industry. Seeking a shift to sustainability, I completed a master's in Sustainable Management at Uppsala University, facilitating my entry into my current job.

Do you benefit from your degree and education today?
– My degree in sustainability set me apart in the job market because it is still uncommon to have such a degree in Taiwan. The curriculum at Uppsala University enhanced my understanding of sustainability and improved my critical thinking skills so I can be prepared for dynamic topics of sustainability.

What is your best memory of your studies?
– Too many wonderful memories… but if I really need to pick one: Interviewing sustainable leaders for my thesis was particularly enriching. The inspiring stories of their dedication to a career in sustainability motivated me a lot.

What was it like studying at Uppsala University?
– It was an autonomous learning experience with the full support of attentive professors. The University provided a safe environment that encouraged exploration, curiosity, and critical thinking among students.

Do you have any tips for anyone considering applying for the programme?
– Be confident in your abilities, as you are valued for who you are. Be patient and recognise that positive change takes time. Prioritise self-care so you can contribute to others and the planet.
