Learning outcomes

After completion of the course, the student should have introductory knowledge about

  • the major processes affecting landscape development
  • the resulting landscape and how to identify its various components in the field
  • the general features in the evolution of the Swedish landscape during and after the last ice age
  • the most commons soil types in Sweden, how they are formed, their properties and classification
  • maps and air photos.

Content

Types of soils, their age determination, and Swedish Quaternary development. Formation of land-forms by water, wind, landslides, glaciers and weathering. Maps and air photos.

Instruction

Lectures, exercises, working in groups, elaborations, field courses and excursions.

Assessment

Examination during the course and/or in the end of the course. In order to pass the examination, all tests and field course examinations should be passed.

Written examination corresponds to 8 ECTS and compulsory parts 2 ECTS. Written examination is divided into 6 ECTS Quaternary Deposits and the Evolution of Landscape and 2 ECTS cartography.
