Entry requirements

A Bachelor's degree, equivalent to a Swedish Kandidatexamen, from an internationally recognised university, including 90 credits in science/technology/engineering. 20 credits energy technology at advanced level.

Learning outcomes

The purpose of the course is to provide the student with knowledge and skills in planning, organising and performing project work using commercial like routines in project management, quality assurance and documentation, and to give understanding for the connections between conservation of energy, sustainable society and technical and economical development.

On completion of the course, the student shall be able to:

  • plan, organize and implement an energy-related project on behalf of an

    external organization,

  • synthesise previous knowledge and independently search for and use new information and knowledge in energy technology and other relevant technology areas required to bring the project to its goals,
  • reflect on project implementation based on project management theories,
  • document and report tasks and results in writing and orally according to a given standard.

Content

The course is performed as a project, related to energy technology and sustainable (ecological, economical and societal) development. The project is performed by one or several project groups, supported by a tutor. The project is defined in cooperation with a company or public authority.

Introductory lectures presenting methods on practical project management. The assignment of the project will be given in such a way that the students have to use previous knowledge as well as search for and make use of new information and knowledge. To solve the problems modelling and simulation will be useful methods. An initial project plan to be accepted before the start of the project and documentation of ongoing work for quality assurance of the project should be produced according to given standards.

During the project the students have to face and solve problems concerning resource management, regulatory requirements, system side effects, budgeting, staff management, leadership and group dynamics, implementation and production costs, market introduction and product life considerations.

Instruction

Lectures, project meetings, seminars and field trips.

Assessment

Written project documentation and project report as well as presentation for companies and oral exam (9 credits).

Active participation in project meetings and seminars during the course (4 credits). Written assignment (2 credits).

If there are special reasons for doing so, an examiner may make an exception from the method of assessment indicated and allow a student to be assessed by another method. An example of special reasons might be a certificate regarding targeted pedagogical support from the disability coordinator of the university.
