After passing the course, the student shall be able to:
- analyze today's technical systems as well as discuss the possible development of future electric passenger aircraft,
- map components and their functions for electric operation of aircraft,
- identify and propose strategies for airports regarding electric propulsion, battery systems and charging of future electric aircraft for passenger,
- describe the research and development front for electric flights, as well as critically discuss this from the outside environmental-, societal- and ethical aspects.
Content
The electrification of the aviation industry and how companies and society can contribute to development towards increased sustainability, with a focus on electric flights and electrification of airports. The challenges and opportunities of electric passenger flights, diverse electric vehicles and development at airports to charge electric aircraft. Powertrains for electric aircraft. Power and energy requirements. Energy storage and charging. Forces on the flight systems for flying electric powered systems, during take-off, flight and landing. Relevant environmental aspects as well as societal and ethical aspects.
Instruction
Lectures, lessons and seminar.
Assessment
Ffour written assignments during the course according to instructions given at the start of the course (4 credits), and one oral presentation at a seminar (1 credit).
