Research Center for Primary Care-based Primary Obesity Prevention

The research centre Primary Care-based Primary Obesity Prevention (PCPOP) integrates the expertise of medical professionals, economists, data analysts, legal experts, and social scientists.

The centre aims to address obesity not just as a healthcare issue but as a complex, multifaceted societal challenge.

The centre’s mission is to shift focus from treatment to prevention by empowering primary care providers and other actors in society with the tools, methods, and models necessary to effectively prevent obesity and its complications in both children and adults.

By building a robust foundation for primary obesity prevention that addresses the root causes rather than just the symptoms, the centre’s innovative research is of highest relevance to halt the obesity epidemic. To effectively turning the tide of obesity to health, the centre is working closely with governmental bodies to develop, test, and refine sustainable prevention models that are both scalable and adaptable to different populations.

The centre is coordinated by Uppsala University, in partnership with Lund University, The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and RISE. The multidisciplinary academic team also closely collaborates with municipalities, regions and companies working with health data.
