Layout of the programme
The Bachelor Programme in Digital Business Development provides a broad understanding of digitization by combining courses in Information Systems and Business Studies, where the teaching in both subjects relates to current research. The programme is designed to prepare the student, both for an exit into working life and for continued studies at an advanced level. Theoretical knowledge is coupled with practice, for example, by allowing students in minor essays, case studies, and theses to take a multidisciplinary perspective on digital business development and apply theories in practical problem-solving assignments. The education is characterized by smaller groups and close interaction between the two subjects’ teachers and students.
The first two years contain courses in Information Systems (Information Systems A and B) and Business Studies (Business Studies A and B). The courses in Information Systems studies digitalization from both social science and software engineering perspectives and places a strong emphasis on the meaning of digitalization for industry and public administration. The courses in Business Studies highlight digitalization from a business perspective and include courses in accounting and calculation as well as organization, management, and marketing.
To ensure that relevant courses are offered, teaching in individual courses and modules can be online.
Semester five is an elective semester, and in addition to a large selection of courses at Uppsala University, there is also the possibility of studying abroad. During the sixth and final semester, students study Information Systems (Information Systems C) that contains a Bachelor’s thesis.
Teaching is given in the form of lectures, lessons, laboratory sessions, and seminars. Group assignment in project form is an element in several courses as well as written assignments, minor essays, and theses. The student is supported through supervision and feedback. The examination takes place in the form of oral and written exams, seminars, written assignments, and theses. During the whole education, students are given the opportunity to develop their skills in written and oral communication. English-language literature occurs on almost all courses, and courses may be taught in English. Examination methods vary depending on the nature of the courses.
