Holocaust and Genocide Studies

Holocaust and Genocide Studies is a young and growing international research field, interdisciplinary in character. We investigate the most serious cases of mass murder, from historical, cultural anthropology, political science, sociology, jurisprudence and psychological perspective. Our theory is based on a thorough knowledge of individual cases, and an understanding of violence, historical, cultural and political contexts. Here Holocaust history and historiography play a central role. Particular emphasis is placed on the mechanisms of violence on a group and individual level, theories of nation-and state-building, nationalism and modernisation.

Studies of the processes of reconciliation and violence legal aspects, the memory of the Holocaust and other genocides, and how to teach and spread the knowledge of these topics are also included in the research field.
