Nubin Ciziri

In my doctoral thesis, in contrast to a normative view that integration is the ultimate goal for refugees, I show a constant process of negotiation between past and present social ties; between integration and (dis)integration. I analyse Kurdish refugee families arriving from Syria in Sweden after the war in 2011 exploring the extent to which the present situation of refugees is an extension of their pasts, from the angle of parents’ engagement with their own and their children’s education.
