Here you will find information about the wireless and wired network at Uppsala University. You will also find information about VPN that you can use when you are working remotely and need to have access to the university's resources.
Eduroam – wireless Wi-Fi network
For students and employees at Uppsala University, as well as researchers and visitors from other universities and higher education institutions who use eduroam.
What is Eduroam?
Eduroam (education roaming) is a worldwide service developed for the international research and education community. More information about Eduroam is available here:

Note
Uppsala University has made changes to our certificates. As a result, some mobile phones, laptops, etc. may display an alert when connected to eduroam.
This warning is expected and might be displayed despite the fact that eduroam at Uppsala University uses legitamate, trusted and valid certificates. If you see this warning, you can click "OK" and continue using eduroam as usual.
UU-Guest - wireless Wi-Fi network
Uppsala University has a wireless Wi-Fi network for guests which will give them Internet access for 24 hours. UU-Guest is available on campus. Not available at Akademiska sjukhuset.
Guests need a mobile phone to which we can send, by text message, username and password.
Guests connect to the network and a self-service page will show automatically.
After 24 hours, the guest can require a new account the same way.
UpUnet - wired network (LAN)
Uppsala University provides a wired network for employees, student organizations and the computer labs on campus. It is each campus/ department /student organization that is responsible for the network connection and computers connected to this network.
Network error reporting should be made to itsupport@uu.se. Error reporting for network sockets in the university facilities should be made to the respective campus management.
VPN - Virtual Private Network
For employees at Uppsala University who need to work remotely or have access to university resources during mission. To get access to the VPN, you need to be Employee or Other active Personnel, Maxi (level of IT charge).
Students do not have the opportunity to use the service.
PLEASE NOTE: Most of the University's IT systems – such as Zoom, Medarbetarportalen, myfiles.uu.se – are accessible to use remotely without a VPN connection. However, some systems require a VPN connection for access outside the university premises. The most common systems are listed below. If you are not sure if you can access a digital service from home, try it first without using a VPN connection (to avoid overloading the VPN system).
Systems that require VPN for working at home:
- The eduPrint printing system
- The Financial administration system Raindance
- Infoglue (starting 11 May 2022)
- The system for publishing on digital screens (Diskus)
- Administration of and access to certain cloud and storage systems (eg Argos, Polacksbacken's cloud service, etc.)
- Primula client – system for Payroll and HR administration
- GLIS
- W3D3 (Document Registration)
Application for VPN service for administrative systems
If you are going to use the university's administrative system via the VPN service, your head of department or equivalent must send the notification for you via the form below.
Basic requirements for use of the VPN service
- To get access to VPN you need to have IT charge Employee maxi or midi or Other active maxi (see levels of IT charge).
- The computer must be equipped with firewall and virus protection and preferably also with spyware protection.
- The computer must be continuously updated with security patches, preferably automatically.
- The computer must be generally installed in a safe manner, including good password.
- VPN service may not be used by persons other than the account holder
NOTE: The application must be made by the head of department / equivalent.
