AI and Academic Writing: Experience a ChatBot from a Student’s Perspective – The Language Workshop for teachers

The Language Workshop’s session is for all teachers, from enthusiastic aficionados of generative AI to those who have not yet typed their first prompt. All feelings and attitudes toward generative AI are welcome.

The purpose of the hands-on workshop is to give teachers an opportunity to try using generative AI in the writing process from a student’s perspective through a series of exercises. The workshop provides teachers with a more solid foundation for deciding whether and in which ways students in their classes might benefit from using generative AI as a writing aid (or not!).

Format

The workshop begins with a lecture and discussion led by teachers from the Language Workshop.

The lecture is followed by a series of practical exercises where we use AI chatbots in different parts of the writing process from a student’s perspective.

You will also have the opportunity to reflect on the exercises with the other participants and the teachers from the Language Workshop, and discuss what guidelines might make sense for your students.
