About the programme
Target group
Doctoral students at Uppsala University regardless of whether you envision a career within or outside academia. Doctoral students across all disciplines at Uppsala University are welcome to apply. You can enroll in UU Career Companion at any point during your doctoral studies and remain enrolled for as long as you are employed by Uppsala University.
Aim
The aim is to provide participants with resources and a forum for reflection about current and coming professional life and career.
Content
UU Career Companion offers self-guided reflection materials to help you explore future career possibilities, podcast episodes featuring conversations about careers after doctoral studies, and information about our unit's services, including individual coaching as well as on-site and online workshops focused on career development.
No fee, no credits
The programme is free of charge for participants and is financed centrally by Uppsala University. The programme does not award points/credits or lead to a formal qualification. Taking the course does not qualify a participant for an extension of a doctoral studentship (förlängning).

Format
The programme consists of 8 modules, covering different aspects of career.
1. Finding yourself – finding your way
Start the career journey with looking inwards to find out what excites, what drains, what gives energy and what is important before moving on to explore the potential labor market.
2. Crossroads – Navigating the decision to stay in academia or move on to explore the world outside
Explore both your hopes and uncertainties as you reflect on the choice (if there is a choice) between continuing in academia or stepping toward new horizons.
3. New horizons – exploring the world outside academia
Discover what lies beyond the world of academia, and explore how your skills and interests can flourish in other settings.
4. Exploring the academic path
Deepen your understanding on what an academic future can look like, its realities, possibilities, and many shapes.
5. Preparing for the future – practical steps for your next chapter
Learn how to build networks, craft your CV, strengthen your LinkedIn profile, and prepare for what comes next.
6. The present path – Caring for the professional Life You’re Living Right Now
Taking care of your current work-life situation and create sustainable ways of working.
7. When life gets in the way
Resources and support when life comes in the way and interferes with your carefully crafted career plans.
8. Career inspiration and outlook
A space for inspiration and to explore books, pod casts and perspectives on career.
