The course aims to provide university and higher education employees with a fundamental understanding of what it means to be a civil servant within the scope of their employment.

About the Course

The course is web-based and can be completed individually at your own pace or as part of a group setting, such as a values-based initiative within an institution or department.

It takes approximately 35–45 minutes to navigate through the course, engaging with informative texts and interactive exercises. The course is available in Swedish and English.

The content of the course covers the role of civil servants at an overarching level. It consists of three main chapters, each of which can be taken independently.

Introduction

This section consists entirely of an animated film that provides an overview of the role of universities and higher education institutions in society. It also addresses the question of why it is important to understand the implications of being a government employee.

Operations

This section is primarily informative and covers different forms of funding as well as the six fundamental principles of the state value system. It also highlights specific regulations that distinguish universities and higher education institutions, such as examination procedures, recruitment, decision-making processes, and organisational structure.

The Individual

In the third and final part of the course, participants have the opportunity to reflect on how the rules governing our work also apply in everyday situations. This section includes thought-provoking questions and interactive elements.

Intended Learning Outcomess of the course are that, after completing the training, participants will:

  • Have insight into and a broad understanding of what it means to be a government employee within the framework of their work at a university or higher education institution.
  • Be aware that laws and regulations shape daily work.
  • Have a general understanding of how universities and higher education institutions are funded.
