Support for conferences, workshops and similar activities

The aim is to give qualified support to workshops and conferences that explore, initiate or deepen collaborations across disciplinary, department, faculty and domain lines within Uppsala University. The support is expected to contribute to increasing interest in, and knowledge of, various forms of cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Form and conditions of the support

The support entails qualified administrative support from CIRCUS’ office to develop, plan and execute the conferences, workshops or similar activities. In addition, CIRCUS can cover costs up to 30 000 SEK for things like venues, meals, and travel arrangements for incoming guests. The basic rule is that the financial part of the support is administered by CIRCUS.

You can send in your application for support all year round. We need your application at least 6 months before the scheduled event.

Application

The main applicant should be an active researcher at Uppsala University. CIRCUS particularly encourages applications that explore thematic areas not currently represented within the Uppsala University Future Institutes (UUniFI) and that help expand the scope of multi- and interdisciplinary research.

The application can be written in Swedish or English and must include:

  • A description of the purpose of the event and an overview of how it promotes inter- and multidisciplinary collaborations at Uppsala University.
  • An overview of the event's programme and who is planning to participate. A tentative time schedule for how you will plan the event.
  • A budget with an estimation of costs (contact us if you wish for some points regarding the budget).
  • A brief CV (max 1 page) for the main applicant.

The application is to be submitted by email to info@circus.uu.se

Conducting the activity and submitting a report and conditions of the support

It is essential that meetings supported by CIRCUS clearly acknowledge the support when announcing the event, in distributed programme, and the like. No later than one month after the completed activity, a brief report must be sent to CIRCUS by completing a survey. The report should include a brief description of the workshop/conference and how it has promoted inter- and multidisciplinary collaborations.

Principles for awarding customised support for conferences, workshops and similar activities

CIRCUS aims to promote the development of new cross-cutting collaborations within Uppsala University. One element of this is providing expert support for organising conferences, workshops and similar activities. The principles for providing this support have been developed by CIRCUS’s research director on the basis of CIRCUS’s instructions and in discussion with the former board of CIRCUS. The former board endorsed these principles by a decision of 25 November 2025.

The principles are not available in English, for more information see the swedish webpage for support for conferences, workshops and similar activities.
