Support for PhD student gatherings

The support is aimed at doctoral students at Uppsala University to facilitate gatherings that promote inter- and multidisciplinary research collaborations. The gathering should concern a broad group of doctoral students from different subjects within Uppsala University.

The support entails qualified administrative support from CIRCUS’s office to develop, plan and execute the workshop. In addition, CIRCUS can cover costs up to 30 000 SEK for things like venues, meals, and travel arrangements for incoming guests. The basic rule is that the financial part of the support is administered by CIRCUS.

The application can be made by a doctoral student or an association of doctoral students at Uppsala University. CIRCUS particularly encourages applications that explore thematic areas not currently represented within the Uppsala University Future Institutes (UUniFI) and that help expand the scope of inter- and multidisciplinary research.

The application can be written in english or swedish, should not exceed 2 A4 pages and must include:

  • A brief description of the purpose of the meeting(s), and an overview of the doctoral students and which doctoral students it is aimed at. A tentative time schedule for how you will plan the event.
  • A budget with an estimation of costs (contact us if you would like some pointers regarding the budget).
  • Approval from the supervisor or director of studies of the main applicant's department.

The application is to be submitted by email to: info@circus.uu.se

Decisions to support applications are made by CIRCUS, but external references may be used if necessary.

When assessing applications, the following aspects are considered:

  • The purpose of the gathering in relation to the mission of CIRCUS.
  • Expected added value in relation to existing activities.
  • How the gathering promotes inter- and multidisciplinary collaboration at Uppsala University.

It is essential that meetings supported by CIRCUS clearly acknowledge the support when announcing the event, in distributed programmes, and the like. No later than one month after the completed activity, a brief report must be sent to CIRCUS by completing a survey. The report should include a brief description of the meeting and how it has promoted inter- and multidisciplinary collaborations.
