New position of Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research

The Vice-Chancellor has decided to establish the position of Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research. The position will be advertised in autumn 2025.

To relieve the University Management, an Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research will be introduced to work on University-wide research issues and represent the University in research contexts. The Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research will be part of the University Management Team and will work with the University Management.

Description of role

The Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research will be authorised by the Vice-Chancellor to represent the University in internal and external contexts, nationally, internationally, at events, meetings and on other occasions.

The role will include being a driving and coordinating force in issues relating to:

  • research ethics
  • research infrastructure
  • open science
  • research funding
  • other research-related issues as instructed by the Vice-Chancellor.

The role does not affect the current responsibilities of the three vice-rectors.

When the terms of office of the current Advisers to the Vice-Chancellor on Research Infrastructure and Research Ethics expire, their tasks will be taken over by the Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research.

The Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor on Research will have a three-year mandate, running parallel to the term of office of the Vice-Chancellor.

Person specification

Applications will be invited for the position in autumn 2025. However, the fundamental elements of the person specification are already settled, with more details to be specified in the advertisement:

  • employed as a professor at Uppsala University
  • good research experience
  • good knowledge of research at Uppsala University and the research landscape in general, both nationally and internationally
  • good contacts in the research sector
  • experience of leadership roles
  • good knowledge of Uppsala University as an organisation.

The Vice-Chancellor will decide on the successful candidate with the support of a recruitment team.

The aim is for the Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor to assume their duties on 1 January 2026.
