New seminar series seeks the knowledge connections that bridge research gaps in the energy transition
If (nearly) all the technology already exists, why is the energy transition moving so slowly?
Vastly different perspectives are brought together to inspire and find common ground between researchers and experts from various disciplines. This is the core of UUniFI’s new seminar series, Bridging the Gap in the Energy Transition.
Hi there, Malin Göteman, Director of UUniFI Energy Transition. You have just released the programmes for the first five seminars in Bridging the Gap in the Energy Transition. The speaker list includes people from widely differing scientific disciplines, as well as experts from companies, government agencies, and policy organisations.
Tell us, what is going to happen?
– This is the launch of UUniFI Energy Transition. When people with different perspectives meet around an issue, it enriches the discussion. And when those participating in the conversations are also interested in starting to work together based on their respective expertise, research is strengthened. In the work on the green energy transition, I believe this is exactly what is needed right now. We are inviting people we believe complement each other to open and intensive conversations.
Why start this way?
– We have come a long way in many areas, but the overall transition is moving slowly. When developing this seminar series, we did so on the premise that there is common ground between individuals and groups, and that we need to better leverage each other's expertise to accelerate development.
If I, as a researcher, go there to listen, what will I get out of it?
– I hope that those of us who do research, or work in other ways within various aspects of the energy transition, will gain shortcuts to both insights and contacts with people who possess the knowledge we need to complement our own expertise. As things stand, there is a gap between research, political targets, and practice in the energy transition, and I believe this is because we do not utilise each other's skills to a sufficient extent.
The first seminar is already on 14 September. The last one is at the end of January next year. What outcomes do you hope to see?
– That those who attend feel they have found new inspiration for their research. That they have found new people they want to collaborate with. And perhaps even that they, together with their new contacts, have begun to look into entirely new research questions.
