Occupational health services
Uppsala University uses the occupational health service to prevent work-related ill health and to help employees return to work as soon as possible after sick leave through work adaptations and rehabilitation.
Employees who need healthcare that is not deemed to be work-related should contact their regular doctor. This is not paid for by the employer.
Avonova is Falck’s subcontractor in Visby. Note that you make appointments with Avonova via Falck’s booking system.

Who is covered by the occupational health service
Members of staff covered by the occupational health service:
- All permanent employees
- All fixed-term employees, including all those employed as doctoral students, regardless of their degree of activity
- Other students admitted to third-cycle education (doctoral students) considered by their head of department/equivalent to be actively engaged in academic study.
In the event of uncertainty, heads of department/equivalent are welcome to consult contact persons at the Human Resources Division.
Researchers and others employed by other organisations are not covered.
Book yourself - anonymous counselling and, in some cases, health profile
Anonymous counselling/support conversation
Each staff member has the possibility to contact and visit a psychologist/behaviourist at the occupational health service on his/her own initiative in case of ill health affecting work, without prior consultation and approval from the head of department/equivalent. These visits are called anonymous counselling or, as you can see on Falcks web page, support conversation. Each employee has the opportunity to book two anonymous counselling sessions/support conversations per calendar year. Bookings are made via a web form, see link list.
Things to consider when booking:
- When booking, make it clear that it is an anonymous call.
- NOTE - you do not need to fill in rows for client/cost centre/reference.
- If you want the call to be conducted in English, please indicate this when booking.
Health profile at 50, 55, 60 and 65 years old
The service includes the following elements:
- Health counselling on lifestyle issues based on questionnaires on e.g. diet, alcohol, drugs, gambling, tobacco, exercise, stress, sleep and perception of own health.
- Measurements and tests (e.g. blood pressure, BMI, waist circumference, glucose, cholesterol, iron).
- Fitness test
- Reflection and summary of the results
The supplier calls employees via email with an offer of a health profile by age range. The offer is sent from Falck twice a year (January and August/September).
Employees who are offered to complete a health profile have the opportunity to book an appointment for it within one year of the offer being sent from the supplier.
Follow-up of any abnormal test results is normally done by another healthcare provider, and is not paid for by Uppsala University. Sampling of, for example, thyroid hormone, PSA and any allergy tests are not included.
Services booked by managers or HR
Other services are booked by the head of department/equivalent, HR generalist or other person with client authority.
If you as an employee need occupational health care services, have a dialogue with your immediate manager.
Cancel or reschedule - no later than 24 hours in advance.
The University is charged for missed appointments and appointments cancelled less than 24 hours before the agreed appointment. This applies to both individual employee appointments and rehabilitation meetings. It is therefore important to make cancellations/changes of appointments in good time.
Please note that you do not need to get approval from your manager to rebook the visit. To be able to carry out the rebooking, answer "yes" in the box at the bottom of the page "New appointment is approved by my employer".
Medical controls
In some professions, medical checks are required by law.
Vaccination

Stress management for staff
Before notification, the action must be anchored and approved by the head of department/equivalent.
