Software

As a student at Uppsala University, you have the opportunity to use computer software that supports you in your studies. You can download some of the software to your computer, and use others online.

Computers with standard software are available in all University libraries.

Software to download

All students at Uppsala University are offered a Microsoft 365 Education account, including Microsoft’s Office package, including, but not limited to, the programs Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

AI tools can help you generate text and create images, analyse data, summarise documents, and much more. Students at Uppsala University have free access to the AI tool Copilot.

Copilot

As a student at Uppsala University you get a Zoom account within the University’s Zoom license. This provides a higher level of security and more functions. Students receive the same license as employees and the University pays for the license.

As a student at Uppsala University, you do not have Teams activated, but are normally referred to Zoom for e-meetings and online teaching.

However, you may need Teams for communication with companies that have Teams as their primary communication tool during a certain course or thesis. Therefore, you can have Teams activated for a limited time period.

Contact your teacher if you need Teams during your course and they will contact IT support who will create time-limited access to Teams.

SkrivaText is a program that corrects spelling mistakes and grammatical errors in Swedish and English text. The program is specially designed for people with dyslexia and reading and writing difficulties, but it can also be used for everyone who would like help with their spelling.

TorTalk is a reading tool that can read out e-books, locked PDF files and text in scanned images. The program is specifically designed for people with dyslexia, but can be used by anyone who wants a simple reading tool. There is also a text-to-speech feature in Microsoft Edge.

JMP helps you tackle and visualise statistical problems, from accessing your data from different sources to using data processing tools and performing statistical analyses.

MATLAB is a high-level programming software for engineering calculations. It is an interactive environment for algorithm development, data visualisation, data analysis and numerical calculations. MATLAB is used in many courses at Uppsala University.

As a Uppsala University student, you can install MATLAB on your computer or use it online. To be able to use the license you need to register an account with MathWorks. The University pay for the license. Uppsala University's license includes all toolboxes belonging to MATLAB and Simulink.

MATLAB is also installed in some student computer rooms at Uppsala University.
