Erasmus grant for blended mobility
As a student, you can participate in a so-called blended mobility abroad as part of your education and receive a grant from Erasmus+. Blended mobility is a course or programme in a blended teaching format.
Mixed teaching format involves a combination of a physical component carried out at the host university outside of Sweden and a virtual part conducted remotely. You are only entitled to the grant during the physical component of the blended mobility.
Is the physical part of your blended mobility between 60 and 360 days, then you should apply for the Erasmus grant for studies instead
The physical component of the mobility
The following applies to the physical component of the blended mobility:
- Is carried out at the host university
- Shall be equivalent to full-time studies.
- Should be at least 5 and maximum 30 days.
- For the physical component of your blended mobility you are entitled a grant
The virtual component of the mobility
The following applies to the virtual component of the blended mobility:
- Is carried out remotely
- Can be carried out either before, during or after the physical mobility.
Who can apply for the Erasmus grant for blended mobility?
In order to apply for the grant, the following conditions must be fulfilled:
- You must have been granted a course or programme in a blended format through your institution, faculty, or the Unit for International mobility to one of Uppsala University's partner universities within either the Erasmus or Enlight networks.
- The blended mobility must consist of a physical component combined with a virtual component.
- You must be registered as a full-time student at Uppsala University at the time of your grant application and intend to graduate from Uppsala University.
- You must study abroad full-time and the physical part of your blended mobility must be a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 30 days. Is the physical part between 60 and 360 days, then you should apply for the Erasmus grant for studies instead
- You must not have another EU grant for the same time period.
Additional information for doctoral students only
- For doctoral students who will participate in blended programmes, the programme must be part of their doctoral studies.
- doctoral students are exempt from the compulsory virtual component of the course in case they are not participating in an organised Blended Intensive Programme (BIP).
Students with a residence permit
Students studying in Sweden on a residence permit should check with the Swedish Migration Agency that participation in exchange studies or traineeship outside Sweden does not affect their residence permit. Please refer to the Swedish Migration Agency's website.
How long can you receive the Erasmus grant for blended mobility?
You can receive an Erasmus grant for blended mobility multiple times, but the following rules apply to how long and how many times you can apply for an Erasmus grant:
- Within the Erasmus programme, one month is considered as 30 days. You can receive an Erasmus grant for a maximum of 12 months (360 days) for each educational level (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels). Students enrolled in long non-structured programme, such as the Medicine Programme, are allowed an Erasmus grant for a total of 24 months (720 days) during their entire education.
- For those who have previously participated in an exchange or traineeship with an Erasmus grant, whether through other institutions in Sweden or abroad, that period is also counted within the 12 months (360 days).
- You are only entitled to the grant during the physical part of blended mobility. The minimum period for the physical part of the Erasmus grant for blended mobility is at least 5 days and a maximum of 30 days. If the physical part of the course is between 60 and 360 days, you should instead apply for the Erasmus grant for studies.
What does the Erasmus grant for blended mobility consist of?
The Erasmus grant for blended mobility is intended to cover additional costs related to your mobility. It will not provide full cost coverage for your stay abroad.
You are entitled to the grant only for the physical component of your blended mobility programme. For short-term blended mobility, you also get the grant during two additional days: one day before the mobility starts and one day after the mobility ends.
Grant levels:
- Day 1-14 in the host country: 70 EUR per day
- Day 15-30 in the host country: 50 EUR per day
Inclusion support
If you have a disability or one or several children, you can apply for inclusion support to cover additional costs that exchange studies or a traineeship abroad may result in.

Support for sustainable means of transport
In addition to the Erasmus grant for studies, you can apply for and receive two grants for travelling sustainably: the top-up for green travel and the Green Travel Grant.

Inclusion travel support for blended mobility
Students who are entitled to one of the inclusion supports and are going on a blended mobility are entitled to a travel allowance. The support amount is based on the distance between the participant's place of departure to the mobility place (one way). Travel distances must be calculated using the distance calculator supported by the European Commission.
Distance | Amount | Amount |
Distance from the participants place of location to the venue of the activity (one way) | Amount per participant for a return trip (normal travel) | Amount per participant for a return trip (green travel) |
For travel distances between 10 and 99 KM | 23 EUR | N/A |
For travel distances between 100 and 499 KM | 180 EUR | 210 EUR |
For travel distances between 500 and 1999 KM | 275 EUR | 320 EUR |
For travel distances between 2000 and 2999 KM | 360 EUR | 410 EUR |
For travel distances between 3000 and 3999 KM | 530 EUR | 610 EUR |
For travel distances between 4000 and 7999 KM | 820 EUR | N/A |
For travel distances of 8000 KM or more | 1500 EUR | N/A |
The distance is measured one way but the above mentioned sums are for a return trip. Green travel includes travelling by train and carpooling, but not boats.
