Record and upload videos
In Studium there's a tool called Canvas Studio that you can use to upload and record videos. Examples of how it is used:
- Record your PowerPoint presentation with or without showing yourself on screen.
- Upload and save a Zoom recording from your computer.
- Submit a video as an assignment.
- Embed a video in a discussion.
Your personal Canvas Studio library is located in the global menu on the left in Studium. Click the Studio button to access it.

How do I record a video?
Webcam capture
If you want to record a short and simple video of yourself, follow these steps:
- Click the Studio button in the global menu. Here, you'll see your library of uploaded and recorded videos.
- Click Create at the top and select Webcam Capture.
- Check that the correct microphone and webcam are selected.
- Click Start Recording.
- When you're done, click Finish.
- If you're satisfied with the video, click Save Media.
Screen capture
You can record your PowerPoint presentation or other windows using Screen Capture, with the option to include your webcam and audio.
- Click the Studio button in the global menu. Here, you'll see your video library.
- Click Create at the top and select Screen Capture.
3. If it's your first time using Canvas Studio, you'll be asked to download and install the recording software. Click Download, open the file, and install it.
4. After installation, refresh the page and repeat steps 1 and 2 to start the screen recording tool.
The screen capture tool should now open.
5. Choose what you want to record:
- Screen for your screen only.
- Webcam for your webcam only.
- Both for both screen and webcam.
6. Use the dropdown next to Narration to select your microphone. If you don’t want to use a microphone, choose None.
7. Use the dropdown next to Computer Audio to decide whether to capture system audio. Choose Yes if needed.
8. Check the recording area size and ensure the microphone works. If you’ve enabled the webcam, position it where you want it.
9. Click Rec to start recording.
It’s a good idea to record a short test clip to ensure everything works as expected. Note that on Mac computers, due to security settings, only the desktop wallpaper may be recorded instead of the actual windows.
10. When you finish recording, click the Pause button, then Done. Name your video and click Upload.
How do I upload a video?
If you already have a recorded video on your computer, you can upload it to Canvas Studio to submit it as an assignment or share it with others.
- Click the Studio button in the global menu.
- Click Create at the top and select Add Media.
- Click Browse Files.
- In the file explorer, select the video you want to upload and click Open. The video will upload to your Studio library.
Is your video blurry?
No need to worry! After uploading, the file will continue to process in the background. Processing time depends on the file size and your network speed.
