Scholarships for Bachelor’s and Master’s students
The basic requirements for applying for a scholarship are that you must:
- be studying at Uppsala University (unless otherwise stated in the scholarship requirements);
- be studying full-time in the semester for which you are applying, i.e., a minimum of 30 credits; and
- have an income of less than SEK 237,000/year (excl. government study loans).
If you have been granted to study at a lower rate by your study counsellor according to an individual study plan, state this in your application.
Each scholarship has unique requirements that can be supported by attaching appendices. Read the instructions for each scholarship to find out which appendices you need to include for the scholarships you want to apply for. Please note that population registration certificates from the Swedish Tax Agency may take time to arrive.
When and how to apply?
Applications open at the beginning of each semester. You can read about the University’s scholarships in the scholarship system at any time. When the application period is open, you can apply for scholarships by logging in with your student account.
How much money can I receive?
A lot! The amounts vary between SEK 1,000 and SEK 70,000 per semester. You cannot be granted several small scholarships that together exceed SEK 45,000/year. However, you can receive one large scholarship which itself exceeds SEK 45,000/year. Travel scholarships are granted separately and therefore not included in the 45,000/year limit.
Most of our scholarships come with no restrictions on how you use them - it's entirely up to you!
Scholarship spanning several semesters? Don’t forget to monitor your scholarship!
Most scholarships are awarded for multiple semesters, during which you can receive one payment per semester. To keep your scholarship and receive payments after the first semester, you must submit what is called a monitoring report each semester.
To retain the scholarship, you must continue to meet the scholarship’s requirements. This means that you must study full-time at Uppsala University (unless otherwise stated in the requirements) and have completed at least 22.5 credits during the previous semester.
You must also meet any specific requirements for your scholarship each semester you submit monitoring. These may include, for example, membership in a specific nation, full-time studies in a particular subject, or within a particular faculty.

International student?
You are welcome to apply for all scholarships for Bachelor's and Master's students. A few scholarships are only open for citizens of certain countries or students born in a specific region of Sweden, however most are open for all. Please read the scholarship requirements for each scholarship carefully.
New student?
You can apply for scholarships even if you are a new student at Uppsala University. In that case, you do not need to attach a result certificate, but attach your registration certificate from Ladok. Then fill in the application as usual. You cannot apply before you are registered and have begun your studies.
Please note that if you have previously studied at another university/college in Sweden, you should attach a national result certificate.
Exchange studies
If you are going to study abroad and your exchange is arranged through Uppsala University and registered in Ladok, you are still eligible to apply for scholarships at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level, as well as to retain any scholarships you already hold.
You may also apply for specific travel scholarships. Travel scholarships are not counted toward the scholarship cap.
Scholarships for relatives
Some scholarships are for relatives of donors. For these scholarships, kinship needs to be proven. The kinship should be described in a family tree that includes each generation from the donor, or the person described in the scholarship requirements, through to the applicant. In the family tree, both parents should be listed for each generation with their first and last names (including unmarried surnames) and years of birth and death.
See our sample family tree template (PDF) pdf, 91 kB.
The kinship must be fully substantiated, i.e. including your own personal data. The family tree must be certified by two people, including a signature, printed name and contact details, and they must be prepared to verbally certify the accuracy of the description.
The application must also be accompanied by a population registration certificate for your parents specifying their relationship to you. To order such a certificate, your parent must request a Family certificate (Familjebevis) from The Swedish Tax Agency’s website. The certificate will then be sent via post, which may take up to a week to arrive so make sure to order it in good time. Please note that all appendices must be attached to your application and that no appendices may be added after the deadline.
Are you on sick leave, parental leave or a full-time elected representative of a nation or student union?
In this case you can apply to pause your obtained scholarship. Such an application is submitted via the scholarship system, and evidence is required of your reason for pausing the scholarship.
Extension of a scholarship
If your scholarship can be extended, this will be indicated in its scholarship requirements. You apply for an extension by reapplying for the scholarship during the application period immediately following the end of your scholarship period.
