Getting to Uppsala
From Arlanda Airport
Stockholm Arlanda Airport is the closest airport to Uppsala, located about 35 km south of the city. Frequent public transport options, including buses, trains, and taxis, are available to travel between Arlanda and Uppsala. The journey typically takes between 20 and 45 minutes.
Train
You can travel with both regional and commuter trains from Arlanda to Uppsala. The main train station, Arlanda Central Station, is situated in Sky City between terminals 4 and 5, with the journey taking approximately 20 minutes.
Ticket prices range from SEK 120 to SEK 210. You can purchase tickets for both through:
- The Airport website (search for trips from Arlanda C to Uppsala C).
- Ticket machines at the train station.
For regional trains only:
- Use the SJ – Trains in Sweden app or visit sj.se.
For commuter trains only:
- Use the UL app from Uppsala local public transport company. This is also the app you use for public transport in Uppsala.
Remember to select the correct operator and train number when purchasing your ticket. Please note, student discounts are not available until you have your Swedish student ID.
Bus
UL bus number 801 operates between Arlanda and Uppsala, departing from bus stop 1 outside Terminal 4. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.
Tickets cost around SEK 120 and can be purchased through:
- The UL app from Uppsala local public transport company. This is also the app you use for public transport in Uppsala.
- With a card payment on board. The ticket is also valid for local buses within Uppsala.

Taxi
Uppsala Taxi offers a fixed fare of approximately SEK 500 for trips from Arlanda to Uppsala. You can also find a variety of other taxi companies in the designated taxi area outside the airport.
How do I get to Segerstedthuset?
If you arrive at Uppsala Central Station by bus or tarin and want to avoid the walk up the hill past the castle, take bus number 11. The bus departs from bus stop E1, located outside the Radisson BLU hotel. It will take you to the bus stop Segerstedthuset (C).
Getting around Uppsala
Uppsala is a bike-friendly city, making cycling the easiest and most popular way to get around. The city is also compact, and most campus areas are easily accessible on foot.
Taking the Bus in Uppsala
Uppsala’s local buses are operated by Uppsala Lokaltrafik (UL). You can buy tickets through the UL app, at ticket machines located at select bus stops and train stations, or directly on the bus using a credit card.
The UL app lets you purchase both single and period tickets, and you can pay with a debit/credit card or through Swish, a popular Swedish payment service.
